catacombs questions

I have 2 questions concerning the forgotten catacombs.
1) what is the equipment challenge? I keep seeing 3/3 beside this and there is no guide on telling me what this means
2) I saw that we can go into the catacombs an extra 2 time this week. However, after my first attempt I tried going into the catacombs but it used one of my crypt keys. I thought it was suppose to be free this week.

Anytime you see the Equipment Challenge in the yellow, it means that they are NOT free runs. When you do go into one, you use up 1 crypt key. I believe that the rarity of drops gets increased in those equipment challenge runs.
