in my guild we are confused:

we can get totem without tower? to me tell you must get before the tower and i can only get the totem without defend it. to some guilder can attack totem and defend them (why totem not are called flags? :S).

A guild can get a Totem without capturing a Tower first. Once you get to the Totem you can click on it and then that will enable you to defend it, unless there is another guild on the Totem. A Totem by definition means "Emblem", which in this case the flag carries that Emblem.
