Socketing Bound Gems & Gem Types

Hi... I am trying to socket a ruby shining gem (bound) to a lvl 45 mage robe socketting lvl 7... but it is not working... what is the problem..? I'm getting a message that says "you cannot socket this gem to this item"...

Rubies can only be socketed into your weapon or your glove, not your armor (robe). And might I suggest not socketing rubies as a Mage since you want to build your magic attack, not your physical. You're better off with topaz gems strength-wise. :3

As stated above rubies and topaz can only be socketed into gloves and weapon, jade amber and sapphire can be socketed into armor, hat and boots.
