your hero needs to be level 55 before you can use the option

Hero returns to lvl 35(only lvl affected, not training) and when he lvl up again he gets a bit better stats.

basically u`l lose 20 levels and the hero will get 10 base growth levels(meaning than when he is back at 45 he will be as strong as it was on 55 before rebirth) . this is mainly made to make heroes stronger since they get xp faster than ur main char but they can`t pass`it in terms of lvls so xp would be wasted

but wht about their equipments? will it removed after rebirth or it stays?

It stays, but if you remove the equipment and the character's level is too low, you can't put it back on. Did that once--thank goodness I had enough Timeskips to level her back up.
