Since killers are always hunting at the mining points, make it such that the Center of the Battleground is a non-battle zone. Mining can still take place, but no battles here. Miners can camp out their hunters, waiting for their savior, or the attacker goes away. Since this route is no doubt longer, you could go to the nearer mining zones (top/bottom) but risk getting attacked.
