I spent money to get married in the game ONLY because of this event. I figured the rewards of trugeons and skill books would be worth it. But I have not seen it in a long time. Did I waste my money?

It was promised something like 6 months before it actually happened, so no guarantees, but it will probably return on a schedule like CSGB. Could be another month or two before it comes back.
As for whether it was a waste of money, hard to say, since the rewards are pretty underwhelming, but books of wisdom are currently very expensive, so any free source is good. Taking an estimated year to upgrade one eudaemon skill to level 6, though...
