Christmas Exchange Event

Ok, I am at a loss here as to what R2 is thinking. To gain a chistmas shard one must purchase 5 attempts in either alchemy or daru alchemy. At a minimum this costs 350 balen. The best item one can get with these christmas shards is a chance at a lvl 3-5 gem at a cost of 100 christmas shards. 100 x 350 = 35,000 balen (I understand that this would take 50 days to aquire 100 shards at this price and there is only two weeks avail for exchange, actual prices are MUCH more). I can open a store buy a lvl 6 gem recipie and craft it at a cost of 21950 balen. Why would anyone pay 13k more balen for a gem at a lower level?!?!?!?
