Spire - Treasure Thief

Today on level 3 of the spire there was a little gold imp guy named "Treasure Thief"

Anybody know what this is??? I defeated him and got the system message:

"Treasure Thief defeated, Flame of Wrath usage counter +1"

This is the minion of the boss. Defeating him (which you will) gives you extra spire rune
