Suggest a 3 day or 5 day event allowing everyone to exchange their left over shards and other items from past events. Allow an exchange for regular items or Balens or vochers. You may even offer the opportunity to purchase additional shards, or whatever, to allow people to increase their turn-in amount for better exchange items. Should be a decent revenue enhancer.

Perfectly fine if they get lesser rewards than what the event offered.
Don't wanna see old events come back with better rewards, and regret wasting my excess on the extra gold/daru.
