They only just put that up. That is not warning that is plain telling us that they did it with no warning.

That announcement is 13 minutes after the merge started. Kabam s5 and s10 were likewise merged with no warning on the forums (announcement 10 minutes after merge started, a full hour after the servers were warning of shutdown), so clearly it's R2's standard procedure to merge without warning.
