Question regarding troops

I am confused regarding which troop shall i choose
For knight,mage , Ranger which troop is better to recruit
For lvl 10 Lancer or ranger
for lvl 20 priest or paladin
and for lvl 40 knight or angle ??

It's just my playstyle, but i prefer troops that can deal more damage. So Lancer, Paladin, Knight, and Templar.
