Question regarding troops

I am confused regarding which troop shall i choose
For knight,mage , Ranger which troop is better to recruit
For lvl 10 Lancer or ranger
for lvl 20 priest or paladin
and for lvl 40 knight or angle ??

For each level, melee troops with swords are the better of the two

It's just my playstyle, but i prefer troops that can deal more damage. So Lancer, Paladin, Knight, and Templar.

same for the reason they last longer as well
