about bg shard

I read about bg in wikipedia and its says the following :

Upon turning in a Inferior crystal will gain 1 Honor, 1 Battleground Treasure Shards and 10 Faction Points; Normal crystal will gain 2 Honor, 2 Battleground Treasure Shards and 20 Faction Points; Superior crystal will gain 3 Honor, 3 Battleground Treasure Shards and 30 Faction Points.

So my question is, how do I know which are inferior ,normal and superior before turning them to the officer?Is it pure luck?

Nah its still random. And bottom route is like 5 seconds shorter so its a no brainer.
