Buying the skill gives you the skill book, however I believe it costs another 300 balens to open another slot. If you don't open another slot you will overwrite one of your existing skills.

1 - buy skill in SHOP window (400~700 balens)

2 - click on new slot (300 balens)

3 - click on skill scroll/ book you brought

4 - click learn skill


And as said, if you skip #2, the new skill you learn in #4 will replace 1 random existing active or passive skill.

What this means is... you could lose a good skill and have to pay even more balens to get it back.
