How to level up characters past 15?

Hey there, I have not been playing long but i have not figured out how to be able raise the level of my characters past lvl15. Maybe i am just an idiot but someone please enlighten me. Thanks

After lvl 15, the levels of your commanders cannot exceed your own. Your level is in the upper left corner with your avatar. You can gain EXP by fighting players and killing their troops, doing rebel groups and rebel leaders, main quests, alliance quests, training grounds, weirwood, in addition to some other special events, such as weirwood memories. You also get EXP items as a reward for some things, so check your inventory once in a while. All methods of gaining exp are best done with an EXP booster, which you can buy with blue diamonds.
