Crystal Essence is used for various upgrades, some of which include upgrading your soul, Sperion, and pixie. In its raw form, it cannot be traded -- only used as a part of certain upgrades. If you're able to obtain empty Crystal Essence Vials, you can fill them up with your CE and trade the vials to other players and/or save them for future use.

where do i get the empty CE vials?

Mobs in Treasure Trove may drop empty vials. Other than TT, you will only find them available in the Fate Shop.

Sometimes the game has an event something like you will trade your CE for a token and exchange it for an item that can be useful to you (ex: soul shard)
