That purple bar is known as Crystal Essence.
What that is used for is for Soul Development - which is an interface you can access by the little whirlpool-like icon at the top-left corner of your screen.

That is used to boost your character at a frightening amount.
However, it requires lots of Purified Crystals, Soul Shards, Heart Shards, Light Shards, Ice Shards, Brilliance Shards and what not.
