What is better? Ice Mage or Fire Mage? Does it depend on the user?

ideally you want to be a hybrid build early on to benefit from dungeoneering earlier on but fire mage all the way for pure damage ice mage for more control but I would opt with fire attack spells and blizzard from the ice tree

some links for mage guides in there. khemz is right though, hybrid is good, can't beat icicle armor and ice shield.
atm my build as a eidolon is all of right side ice with ice rebirth skills, then all fire. when I was a mortal, went with blizzard(ice main) ice passives and minor fire skills. usually always getting all the skills that have 0 cast time= about 6 skills that can be instant spammed- as that is a pretty OP skill set and good for pvp against rogues and knights or anything that stuns you after you started casting it on them(Blizzard casts through stun if already being cast).

would say maxing Alarcity is a must, comparable to socketing a immaculate Kyanite gem for cast speed, seeing as only lv 91+ people can equip a Kyanite gem I'd say that's a Amazing advantage for someone low level mortal/scion/eido using blizzard etc.
Demons wrath and Deep Freeze are very nice as well as will give a considerable attack boost

I would say ice cause i think that has a few skills that reduce ur movement speed so if u use that in dungeon u can get the advantage vs ur 'slow' boss xD

Ice mage offers opportunities to slightly "kite" bosses and you take less damage overall. Fire hits alot harder but mages can't solo till geared sufficiently at higher levels but are admiral adversaries. I would say mage is for expert level as they are squishy and take alot of experience to undersstand pvp situations.

ya ice is good, helps when kiting-used to have to kite zabuga a lot,involving ice attack/blizzard blink then continued attacks with other stuff while running for dear life. ice rebirth skills help amazingly at dungeons, recovery one is great. the 20% dmg reduc can't do without.
if kiting a boss, try to get a good circle area clear before taking it on, one you can run around in a loop without the boss being able to engage you(if possible)
like ladder lv 32 with all the bugs. if your slow - but your skills can nerf them, remember you can cancel casting blizzard. it only takes one hit from blizzard for the effect to take hold

Ice will slow people Fire will do more damage.

its ice mage because it slows enemies..wile doing DPS.....but fire only does DPS no slow...

Fire mages give a lot of damage they can kill.They kill their enemy faster than the ice mages .U must max thunder storm skill .It give a very high damage.This skill a very dangerous + it slows the movement of target.This is very useful in pvp.Rest you decide u are a fire or ice mage?I advice u fire

thuderstrom(scion) passive will hit any nearby shadowed rogue.

if u mortal or scion with low ma go ice if eid or have over 25k ma then do fire ull be killing 80% of ur opponents with ur 200k+ crits

yeah that's right because it has big area skill..so can damage the shadow rouge..
