  • [Guide] Improve Your Gaming Experience

Everybody knows that this game is laggier than anything and its really bloody annoying. So here i am to tell you a buncha things you can do to help improve load speed and reduce lag/disconnection frequency. I'll start of with the basics... this one is for all you doughheads out there. Close all other programs and tabs. It really annoys me when someone complains about lag/disconnections when they run 5 alts at a time, facebook, skype, youtube etc all at the same time. How dense can ya be!?

One of the major factors when it comes to a slow computer is the amount of **** you have on your hard drive, like loads of programs and toolbars and other junk... pics vids and songs... having too much of that on your computer will slow it down significantly. I suggest using the Add/Remove programs feature and get rid of as many programs as you can, keeping only the ones that you use frequently. As far as the media, try copying it to removable storage (flash drive or usb HDD) to help free up space.
You also want to adjust the settings on your computer for best performance. Do this by opening the start menu, go to my computer and right click, then click properties. This will open the system properties interface. From there click the advanced tab, then click performance settings. Under the visual effects tab, click "adjust settings for best performance". If you wont to go that extra mile to help improve your experience, click the advanced tab in that same interface, performance settings. You will see two different boxes with options regarding your processor/memory usage. Click performance in each box, then click the change button under the virtual memory section. This area allows you to create a paging file, which is an area on your hard disk that will be used as RAM. I dont suggest that you go with the maximum amount of space available, but do increase it to about 80% of the max. As you can see im running Windows XP, going about this on another operating system will be slightly different. If you're using a different os than i am you can easily find out how to create/increase paging file size on the microsoft website.

Ok moving on now... more basic stuff. If you plan to play cs for a few hours consecutively like most of us do then you will want minimal cookies/cache etc from other websites. So start off with clearing your cache and cookies (use disk clean up or C Cleaner) and also run the disk defragmenter. (some people will say that clearing cache and cookies will make it take longer to log in etc. If you are taking a long time to get logged in, hit refresh and it will load way faster). In addition to this, inevitably we will experience lag after several hours of gameplay. A quick fix to this is to simply refresh, or close your browser and run your defragmenter again. If you defragment often and aren't constantly browsing other sites while playing the game the defragment will be lightning quick every time.

Ok now let's talk browers. When i first started i was using internet explorer... thats a big no no. lol IE sucks. big time. I recommend using Opera or Chrome. There are a couple other browsers out there that are good as well, like Comodo Dragon, which is a slightly modified version of Chrome but it doesn't have the pep flash player. (that is a good thing). For you chrome users here is how to disable the pep flash player http://forum.r2games.com/showthread....sues-on-chrome

Now for flash player settings... While you're playing cs, right click on the screen. You'll get a little drop down menu, click settings. Then choose the global storage icon, and use the slider to allow the site to save an unlimited amount of data on your computer. I'm pretty sure thats as close to a client for this game as we're ever gonna get

Another thing that slows down our computers is programs that start up when we boot up our computer. So many programs start running in the background, like Skype for example... and opening your task manager to shut each of them down individually every time u turn your computer on is just annoying, and a waste of time. So here's how we get around that! its so bloody simple too, it makes life much easier, and your computer will load up much quicker as well. Open the start menu, click run. Type msconfig then hit enter.

Once you do that, you'll get a system configuration interface that pops up. Click the services tab, then check the box "hide all microsoft services", then click "disable all". This prevents other programs from starting up when you log into windows, and helps speed things up. You can choose to allow some of these programs to start when you log on windows by simply checking the boxes in the list.

I hope that some of you find this useful, and that some of you will stop being doughheads about using several programs and all kinds of other **** then wonder why u get disconnected from the server so often. Who knows, maybe ill add to this at a later date... but for now i think this is good enough. cheers

I seriously would not recommend anyone doing this. Unless you want your computer to stop functioning.

after you click hide microsoft services, they are removed from the list, so you do not stop them from working. there is nothing to worry about if you do as i said above. after all, my computer runs 100x faster now that ive done that. and yeah it seems to be working still. lol

This is taking too much just to play a browser based MMO. PEOPLE!! The only thing that is keeping you from having a good bit of fun in this game is your lack of large enough RAM capacity. You don't need a high end PC just to play this, or any other tweaks to improve gaming performance. If you try to run a performance monitor program while you are playing CS you will notice that it only utilizes a big chunk of your RAM which means if you have like 2gb RAM capacity and you play CS with 3-5 alts plus you have something more running in the background then most likely you will have a laggy game and most of the time crashes. Try to have a big enough RAM capacity like 4-8gb DDR3 RAMS you will see the difference. You can run 5-8 alts at the same time and still you can watch youtube videos on the side. BTW DDR3 type RAM is the widely used today because most of the MOBO now utilizes DDR3, if you have DDR2 or whatever then that means your PC is old and it needs changing. I would say this is a nice guide because the author put a lot of effort in it but by knowing the reality and considering this is just a browser based MMO I think it's a fail guide because the author didn't do much research about the subject...sorry

BTW, before I changed my RAM to 8gb I only have 2gb. I tried the "increasing the page file" size for the HDD to become and extended RAM, it didn't worked out fine since it stresses the HDD and also utilizes a medium amount of CPU then after that it crashed. I tested that with a 6 alts running at the same time, it won't just cut it.

Well, I see things from another perspective. Your guide is so advanced that it needs a deep understanding on why those things should be increased or disabled on the users computer system.

its actually really basic. when u try to open 10 programs at once it affects the overall performance of your computer. msconfig brings up a tool to prevent several programs from opening on start up, thus improving computer performance. im sure this guide will be helpful for a large number of players.

Just because it 'works' for you, it's not necessary works for others. Certain computers requires services that isn't Microsoft's, and disabling it might cause issues.

Besides, disabling services via msconfig is highly not recommendable. But instead use the services.msc

p/s windows xp is soooo 2001

maybe its your internet connection, if youre wireless theres countless things that could interfere with the signal. if you are wireless i suggest switching to wired signal if at all possible.
