You will not purchase any rings - rings will be provided after the wedding has taken place (that is, if you book an exquisite or royal wedding). A protection ring will be provided to both toons if an exquisite wedding is completed. Likewise, both a protection and teleportation ring will be provided if a royal wedding is completed. It will cost you however to get engaged and book the wedding.

The engagement ring doesn't matter. You buy the diamond ring so that you don't have to deal with building up friendliness points with your intended spouse, that's all. You can propose with any ring and it will not affect the outcome of your actual wedding.

What you want to do is a Royal wedding. This wedding will provide the two marriage rings.

Purchasing the Diamond Ring only supersedes the friendliness requirement. The Silver Ring requires a 100 point friendliness level before being able to get engaged, but if you have 100+, a Silver Ring works fine.
