Will forged Fragarach save it's gems/sockets?

Actually, the question is in title: will my fragarach staff have gems/sockets it has now when I forge it to next level?

I know it'll stay from Earthen to Superior, however after that I'm not sure.

I have Earthen I now, so I'll forge earten to erathen for several levels.

I've never had to remove my frag gems when upgrading frag since earthen and I'm at perfect 6 so I'm pretty sure it's safe

Squintina, good news, thank you. I've upgraded all but my staff/equip-set now, and I'm feeling I missed something, so now I'll start forging my staff.
