To add onto what KidSess stated, the fruits are used to add permanent stats when used. You are limited to a certain amount per day, though.

There are two different types of fruit. You can get the fruit from the trees in the fruits menu. You can get buildable fruits, that require ingredients and formulas, by using the section of the tree system that uses gold. Then there is a section of the tree system that costs crystals. Those fruit at already built and ready for immediate use. Each fruit gives a permanent stat boost, and each fruit gives a different boost in stats. Formulas are famed from dungeons. The higher the level of dungeon the higher the level of formula dropped from the bosses. The ingredients for each formula are listed when you hover your mouse over the formula. The regular ingredients drop from regular mobs of certain levels, the special bottles needed for the formula are dropped from elites of certain levels. You can use 15 fruits of any kind daily, regardless of whether you built them from a formula or from a crystal purchase. The higher level the fruit, the higher the stat boost that is given by the fruit.

Basically the system is very very much worth it. If you are willing to use crystals, and unlock the 4th tree right at the start, pull the 4th and 5th trees, then start over, the stat boosts given by those high level fruit, is substantial enough to be worth the crystal that it costs. The buildable fruits are definitely worth the boosts if you take the time to farm the ingredients and formulas needed to use them daily.
