  • "Does Blood Beam do better damage than Light Beam?"

I've had a question wracking my brain for the last few hours, and I decided to find a solid answer through some data I collected. The question was:

"Does Blood Beam do better damage than Light Beam?"

The reason this question came up was because I noticed that even if you went full Holy for Pve healing the Blood Beam tree was still a great option for solo dps. So I went and made a new priest to gather base line data. Now I got incredibly bored and stopped collecting at level 16, but this is the data:

Now to those who are wondering: this data was all recorded at a rate of +3 intellect per level up and without anything equipped. NOTE: All damage out puts are from the level one version of the respected spells.

OK, now this is how I figured the damage out puts..
For Blood Beam, the equation seemed simple enough. I simply took what I saw from the tooltip: y=(0.80*MATK)+18+(0.04*HP)
For Light Beam, I did y=MATK+(0.44*MATK)+(0.53*Heal)+20 .. I added the whole MATK to the front because when I calculated it without it, the numbers were too far from what my character was doing on the screen and after adding it the number was in a far more reasonable range. I also took into consideration that the number on the screen was susceptible to other factors such as a monster's resistances and such.

After looking through the base line information, I tried to make a few models that made sense. I tried exponential and linear, and exponential was just waaaay too out there once you got past the 60s. So stuck with the linear model:

If some of you are wondering, yes I did change the equations to the level 1 version of the next in line. At 40 I changed to Improved and at 80 to Master.
To answer the question: Going in this fashion, it would seem that the Light Beam tree is superior. However, if you were to factor in the loads of health from gear and such, and the fact that it is EXTREMELY cost efficient to use Blood over Light, I want to say that the Blood Beam tree is the best option for any type of priest dps.

**PS. This is my first post and I hope it helps at least someone out >< Feel free to comment and ask questions.

u gotta remember that blood beam is an instant cast, while light beam takes casting speed, so youll prob get 2 blood beams to 1 light beam

I think it's best to utilize BOTH, if you can. Once you're able to upgrade your cast speed, light beam's cast speed is reduced quite a bit.

If you have Angel's Blessing, both skills are just as cost-effective since you're replenishing your hp and mp spent tenfold every 10 seconds.

Well, that's an amazing chart for an effort. =))

I've recently found that using both trees is incredibly beneficial on dps, especially with high cast speed. My cast speed is 145% atm and I can almost spam Light beam as fast as my blood beam and it does about 15k more damage than blood beam even with 110k HP (my heal is not up to par as far as I'm concerned, I never planned on being a healer).

I'm with you on that one, Alex. My cast's speeds 150% and Master Lightbeam is almost instant-cast now. Which is pretty damn useful for Seng and Avernal, despite me not being a DPS priest at all.

            Light beam = 27012 / 33318
            Blood beam = 14897 / 18257

Note the bold = buffed. I just tested it on some mobs in Shrine of Ariel to get a general idea. I do like master light beam quite a bit since it does get a decent boost from my healing stat (14406 buffed). Blood beam doesn't get much of a bonus from my health, unfortunately. Only have 97k health fully buffed.

Yeah, I'm getting about 20-21k on Master Blood Beam Lvl 5 and 36k on Master Light Beam Lvl 2. It's really nice. I'm going to try to push my cast speed up even more soon.

Light beam dealing more damage p/hit than blood beam isn't exactly mathematics. The question is which of the two deals more dps.
Since it is the Cast spd of Light and Atk spd of Blood that defines both as different styles to play. Get a private Avernal and test it out :P

I wrack up more damage faster by using master light beam along with my other skills in Avernal.

                          Yeah, but Zeph is crazy ridiculous that no one else can actually compare to his stats. = =;

You mentioned that you think using both trees significantly increases your dps. Can you elaborate on how? I'm building a priest and I am interested on how this works.

So do you make your default attack blood or light beam? Because since they are both spammable does it matter to have both trees? The only thing I can tell is having the extra skills in the blood tree and the light tree.

I have both Master Light Beam and Master Blood Beam at lvl 5, both are amazing. However when I want to do more dmg in a shorter space of time, i'll use MLB; eg 1 shotting ppl in pvp. If I want dmg over time i'll use MBB eg for avernal or as a follow up behind MLB to get more shots in for players with more dmg redu, def or hp.
