About upgrade mount

I've feed my mount using purified crystals, i wanna know if i transform it to Gorilla Titan, this one gonna keep the upgrade lvl?.

What does feeding the mount actually do? Is it worth it? I don't really intend to upgrade to the gorilla. As a fairly casual player it seems pontless

you are feeding an animal with a crystal it will make them sick and eventually die and you have to buy new mount from misc vendor
