Armor Piercing System?

Can anyone tell me exactly how AP/AP Def works? Or link me a thread about it?

If you hover above the AP stat in your character view, it will show a description.
But you need significant more AP Def to void AP.

Well I know that it increases chance to ignore 50% of defence but that is a pretty brief description, doesn't even tell me what my chance is of ignoring defence. They should add a (#%) next to it so people know what they are getting. For all I know I could be on 1% chance.
