My character dissapeared/was deleted!

My username, KittyKat8.
I tried to log in one day to find a mysterious popup. "This user does not exist" I spelled my username exactly the same, and I double checked with my friend. I then set up a new KittyKat8, to find it let me. I worked pretty hard on that account and would like some answers!
