Rune progress

I have a lvl 74 Sorcerer. When I try to add more runes I get a series of messages that it returns the runestones. I should be able to start updating the weapon rune but it just sits there and I've gone through thousands of runestones. How do I make progress?

you should know that runestones are being returned cus all yer gears except 1 or 2 are at the point where they need upgrade. when yer armor will be 5-10 as well (which most prolly isnt), youll be able to upgrade yer runes and level them up again.

It does that because you've maxed some pieces of equipment for that tier, but not others (breastplate). You just have to trudge along till armor maxes and then you can finally start runeing out your weapon.
