cause the shards from previous events and shards from wheel of luck were not compatible and if you had 250 of the old shard and 250 of the new shard, you couldnt synth. The exchange allows you to change the shards so that you end up with 500 of the shards that you can synth. It tells you in the description of the event if players start to actually read what it says.
