as lomg as you dont take KoB you'll be fine... or is KoB better not that he has skills? xD
I dont if you mean *free* or *cash* heroes. We can add to the list the 3 astral tavern *easy* to get with 7s in hoc, astral hunter, valkir and arcane spirit.
A good thing to do is to think about what you want your party to do, and to know why you choose one specific hero over another.

As a non casher or VIP only:
Astral Child only. all resource should be saved. focus mount to +15
when you are 60+ try to get claw first. pve is important for free players.
you will have Astral hunter and Arcane Sprit free. if you collect good and plan

As a mid-end high-end
take ES, LE
dont need to save resource spend money much as possible
