They told us players that there'll be an event where you can swap your unwanted/excess shards to the one that you want so that they can be used at least. Will there really be one? I have excess shards of the clothing/wings that I already have...

if you mean about smelt event than it is for droping restover shards for other items like refine stone or seraphs, and angel shars you can use in unbreakable bond iirc
