Evolved Hero Recruitment

When recruiting new heroes, can you recruit an evolved hero without first recruiting their lower non-evolved form? Meaning if in an event you have the option to "buy" an evolved form of a hero whom you haven't already recruited will that evolved hero become immediately available for you to add to your party or will you have to wait until you acquire that un-evolved form of that same hero before being able to utilize the evolved hero with your group? If you can use the evolved heroes immediately, who would you advise recruiting in a choice between Styx Lord or Divine Messenger?

You cant, you need to recruit non-evolved hero and then evolve it without skipping any stage of evolution.
