Andy was a test subject at Yates. When infected with the X-virus, he lost all vital signs and Yates discarded him for dead. Actually, Andy was somewhere between dead and alive, he had become a zombie, but was still self-conscious. After months of being tortured at Yates, all he wanted was revenge, so he used his new powers to control zombies and attack anyone who might cross his path.
