Barracks - collecting troops

So is there a trick to collecting troops from barracks? When I use speedups or sometimes collect troops before they're completedly done, most of the time I get LESS troops that what is shown on the barracks? For example it might say 3000 but when I click it might only be 2842. Why is that? Anyone know?
