Fighting monsters

What is the minimum battle level to be able to defeat Level 17 Monsters?
They have a recommended power requirement of 14728940. I try to fight them with a Total hero power of 16318700 and am defeated every time.
In my search for monsters, I am shown monsters to level 18, although I have never been able to defeat a monster in the highest available monster level throughout the game.
Does anyone know what Hero level I need to be able to defeat Level 17 monsters?

with what you've shown you're 2mil over the monster rating? Sounds like you should be able to kill. I usually try and get my troops BR near the NPC (monsters). If you're being defeated all the time try sending a Healer Type with your grouping?

Thanks but already done that. Elves can find no reason why I can not defeat level 17 monsters.
Latest attempt this morning - Spider King. [I try one at Level 17 monster every day] Battle party with healer [values from monster screen] Recommended Power - 14728940 :-
Wyrm Slayer 3472190; Corrupt Halfling 3404360; Wild Bandit 3294220; Forest Elder 3234360; Nightingale 6026730. Total Hero Power 16197500. Result - DEFEAT
Without Healer: Wyrm Slayer 3472190; Corrupt Halfling 3404360; Wild Bandit 3294220; Forest Elder 3234360; Rose Gallant 2913570. Total 16318700. Result - DEFEAT.
Any other suggestions?

How far along is your armor on troops? 1 Star, 2 Star etc
What lvl is armor?

All heroes 4 stars and elite crests.
Top 4 heroes have all Epic gear. 5the hero has Rare gear at 2 or 1 star.
Top hero all items level 49 and 2 stars;
Epic gear heroes all level 49 swords, 1 at 2 stars, 2 at 1 star; level 48 armour 2 at 2 star. 1 at 1 star. Level 48 necklaces all are 2 star; and Level 48 rings, 2 are 2 stars and 1 is 1 star;
Rare gear level sword 43 and 2 star; armour level 42, 2 star; necklace level 42 1 star; ring level 43, 2 stars.

get rid of nightengale and use the Invoker or Queen of Elves or improve upon your Rose and she can tank and throw heals too

This morning I finally managed to defeat a level 17 monster with a battle power of 16179360, lower than the level at which I was being beaten when I first posted. Does not make sense but, don't look a gift horse etc. Thanks for your suggestions
