Allow me to answer this...they have already said that SC events will be few and far between now. Those who haven't spent them during last few events you'll be holding onto them for quite some time most likely since SC are now inadequate for them to be using the time to make events. Most likely we'll be seeing a SM event before SC.

1. New added X’mas scenes for celebration. They can be found in the Cloud City, the Inner City, Farm and World Boss etc. (You need to clean the caches for the browser after the maintenance to be able to see these new features);
2. New added refining system for sylph equipment, which can be socketed Divinity Souls with;
3. New added some X’mas events, including some discount events that would make you a great comeback;
4. Fixed some errors on consuming fashion cores while identifying clothing;
5. Fixed a description error on Holy Set Chest;
6. Fixed a description error on Holy Rune Pack;
7. Fixed other known bugs;
8. level 35, 45 and 55 Arena sets are no longer available;
9. Insignias can be used to exchange level 40 and 50 legendary stones now.
Insignias* 50 can be exchanged into Level 40 legendary stone *1
Insignias* 80 can be exchanged into Level 50 legendary stone *1

No, no you shouldn't be handed sylph gear for a maintenance. Get your daily rewards, it's not like you're actually missing out on anything.
