My family is not very sentimental...so here goes...

Dear Mom:
I hope you got my flowers and I hope they are better than the flowers my sister Heather sent.
I cheaped out a bit this year on them...but you are familiar with my spending habits so it should come as no surprise.
I guess what I really want to say is...I am glad you have accepted me for the less than perfect surprise second daughter I am.
I won't be coming to visit you Sunday because I know that strangers like me upset your cat and you already had Mother's Day lunch with Heather.
Besides...we both agree that seeing each other four times a year or so is quite ample. I mean...we talk every day on the phone anyway...mostly because I insist on calling you when you are doing dishes, watching tv or otherwise involved.

Words cannot express the deep love and admiration that I have for my mother. Being an adopted child, I think it means more to be CHOSEN by someone to be their son. My mother never faltered when I was younger to know what my needs were and to do all she could to meet those needs. My brother and I were adopted together and last year we lost him to a heart attack at the age of 27. I was amazed by the strength that
my mother displayed in standing for hours to thank all those that came to pay their respects. She is taking care of her own mother now and living in a Condo. With all the trials that life has presented, I am
constantly inspired by the strength and dignity my mother possesses and am so thankful that 27 years ago she picked me to be her son!

You know its true when you finally have your own family and become a parent yourself of how much youve taken your one and only mother for a horrific joy ride of being a nasty kid. Anything she said or did didnt register in my pea sized brain at that time - did not make sense and didnt bring comfort or joy to a sulky teen. Oh gawd my poor mom! My mother means the world to me and I love her very much. She has been there for me to share all the good times and to pull me through the rough times. Every mothers day, my brother and myself get together and usually get her a gift together. Many times we find flowers that she really likes and can be planted outdoors or just placed on the patio where they can be seen every day. Last year, we got her a lilac tree which we planted opposite the one we got her a few years ago, and have already been able to enjoy the lilacs blooming on it this year. We also plan the day so that she does not have to cook. With the help of my brother and father, we cook one of her favorite meals so that she can just relax and not worry about anything. Happy Mothers Day Mom!!!!!!
